Canoeing & Kayaking
Dip your paddle on a waterway, test your strength in the rapids
The Cable Area has some of the most pristine waterways in the Midwest to canoe or kayak. With 966 inland lakes and over 400 miles of streams and rivers we offer the canoe and kayak enthusiast a full assortment of opportunities for all skill levels. The headwaters to both the Namakagon and the St. Croix Rivers are located within the Cable Area. These two rivers form the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, a National Park. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway provides you with the rare opportunity to travel on the river and camp at any of the many campsites located along the river absolutely free. Traveling the water by canoe or kayak also provides you with excellent opportunities to view or photograph wildlife.
Most of the waterways have landings for easy launching and many have picnic areas as well. For the more adventuresome, there are many lakes and streams that will require portaging. Whether you’re looking to glide effortlessly across glass water on an inland lake or cut your way through whitewater rapids, the Cable Area has the perfect water for you.
