Camping

Rugged adventure, relaxation, fresh air, twinkling stars…the Great Outdoors

The Cable Area and the Chequamegon National Forest offer some of the finest camping opportunities, with spacious campsites nestled in wooded areas or beside a lake or stream. Dogs are allowed in National Forest Campgrounds but must be on a leash at all times, dogs are not permitted at swimming beaches.

Two Lakes National Forest Campground is located on the north end of Lake Owen and Bass Lake in the town of Drummond.  Two Lakes offers camping for larger groups with over 94 spacious sites and can accommodate RV trailers in drive through sites. Solar water pumps and hand pumps are available to guests to fill water tanks, although no electricity is offered at the camping sites. The campground offers two swimming areas, boat launches, a fishing pier on Bass Lake, and an interpretive hiking trail around Bass Lake. Canoe and paddle boat rentals are available for a small fee for the day through the campground hosts. Campsite reservations can be made up to four days before arrival, or else sites are available on a first come first serve basis.

Lake Namakagon National Forest Campground is located on the north end of Lake Namakagon in a hardwood hemlock forest. The Namakagon Campground offers 34 spacious and secluded sites. Guests will find a covered picnic pavilion with wood burning fireplace for year-round use. A slow sloping swimming area and sandy beach keep kids busy. A large fishing pier and public boat launch can accommodate any fisherman. Campsite reservations can be made up to four days before arrival, or else sites are available on a first come first serve basis.

For those who really want to "get away from it all", backcountry camping is permitted throughout the forest on public land and the rivers edge of the Namakagon River, as long as the site is located at least 30 feet away from any trail or water's edge. Remember...pack it in and pack it out!

Various businesses and private residence throughout the area offer firewood for sale. It is illegal to bring firewood from across state lines. You may remove downed trees and brush from the woods, but it is prohibited to cut any live trees from the forest.

There is an RV Dump Station at Two Lakes Campground on Lake Owen for a small fee for guests and non guests. Shower, pool, and sauna facilities are available at neighboring resorts.
