New Registration Procedures for 1999

If event popularity is determined by early registrations, then without a doubt the
Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival has set the bench mark as the most popular event in the
history of the sport. This became evident during the 1997 Festival weekend, when the 2,500 person limited registration of the 1998 Chequamegon sold out one year in advance in just 24 hours.

In an effort to fairly manage the event's tremendous popularity, an entirely new
registration procedure will be used to fill the 2,500 person field limit of the 1999 and beyond Chequamegon 40 and Short & Fat 16. Please take note of the details of this new procedure outlined below.

Obtaining An Entry Blank
Registration blanks will only be sent to those who request one by providing a
self-addressed stamped business size envelope that is marked "1999 Entry Blank" on the front. Requests for entry blanks will be accepted from September 1 to March 1. Entry form requests should be sent to the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival office at PO Box 267, Cable,
WI 54821.

This will be the only way that entry blanks can be obtained. Entry blanks will not be
distributed to bicycle and sport shops, will not be posted on our web site, nor will they be
available during the current year's event weekend. During the 1998 event weekend, there will be drop off points for people to leave their envelopes.
On March 1, all those requesting entry blanks will be sent one (and only one entry
blank) in their submitted envelope.

Submitting An Entry Blank
A random lottery will be used to select the 2,500 entry positions from the entries
submitted. Participants who wish to be included in the lottery must complete the entry blank and return it in a business size envelope marked "1999 Entry Blank" on the front, with the proper fee amount to the Chequamegon office by March 15.
To accommodate family and team entries, up to four entries can be submitted in each
envelope returned to the Chequamegon office. Completed registrations will be accepted only until the March 15 deadline. Completed entries received after March 15 will not be included in the registration lottery.

Selection of Entrants
On March 15 the drawing for entry spots will take place at the Chequamegon Fat

Tire Festival office. The first 1,700 Chequamegon 40 entries and the first 800 Short & Fat entries selected in the random draw will be accepted for the 1999 registration. Envelopes containing entry blanks that are incomplete, do not have checks included with them or have more than four entries in them will not be accepted if drawn during the selection process.

Confirmation of Entry
Confirmation cards will be sent to the 2,500 participants whose entries are selected
by May 1. Those not selected will have their checks returned by May 1.

Please note that this new procedure is very different from what we have been doing
in the past. It is the participant's responsibility to understand the changes in the procedure and obtain and return their own entry blank within the time frame allowed. A detail of the new procedure will be handed to each participant attending the 1998 event along with their registration materials.
