The Cable Area Off Road Classic mountain bike race is held annually the third weekend in May and is traditionally one of the first off road races in the spring biking season. This is the 18th year for this prestigious event which runs point to point from Lake Namakagon to downtown Cable. Racers can choose between an 20 or 25 mile course running through the Chequamegon National Forest. Natural beauty, a fantastic course and a weekend of friendship and fun awaits you whether you are riding or just taking it all in.

Full steam ahead for Cable Area Off Road Classic bike race.

Spring has not been kind to local businesses in northern Wisconsin or event planners like the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce. Fresh off the heels of hosting a Governors Fishing Opener that saw 18” of ice still covering Lake Namakagon, officials now turn their attention to hosting a mountain bike race on snow covered trails. Susan Fibert, with the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce says they are busy finding an acceptable route that will deliver a great course for the riders but also protect the sensitive spring trail system. “Our trail committee is looking at all options and we will likely have to use more roads than normal for this race but the late snow fall has really set the opening of the CAMBA mountain bike trail system back by several weeks”. Organizers hold this early spring race to remind riders of the incredible trail system that exists in the Cable Area. “We offer this early race to highlight our trail system so we are not going to run an event that damages what we are working to promote”, said Fibert. “We won’t move the race date either because that creates problems conflicting with other events. Riders plan to be in Cable that weekend riding their mountain bikes and we are going to make sure they get to do just that”, she concluded.
