Pastels: Painting Wildflower Fields
May 2
Cable Natural History Museum
May 2, 2018 10am – 4pm Create vivid pastel paintings of wildflower fields using your own photos as reference. We’ll first do a small, quick warm-up exercise, using one of the instructor’s black and white photos, translating values into color with an analogous color scheme (color next to each other on the color wheel). You’ll layer the pigment of dry pastel sticks (not oil) on paper, focusing on the art elements of composition, value and texture. To compose a fascinating composition, you’ll practice how to select and amplify a focal point by using “The Golden Mean.” The instructor will demonstrate many techniques on various types of paper. You’ll have the opportunity to view the museum’s new exhibit about pollinators. All levels are welcome, though basic draeing experience is helpful. Bring a lunch or order from a local catering establishment during class. Please note: this class is offered for two days, sign up for one or both. Visit www.witc.edu/supplies for a supply list. To register, please phone WITC – Ashland 715-682-4591, ext. 3170. If you have any questions about any of these classes, please contact Diana at oiabms@cheqnet.net or 715-798-3619
