Look all around you in Cable throughout the summer of 2013. Twenty-four talented local artists will be featured in a variety of colorful images to brighten up the village streets.  The banners will go up on the utility poles throughout the community the last week of May and will remain through August.  All of the original artwork which inspired these street banners is also on display at sponsoring businesses throughout the summer. www.cablehaywardarts.org

Currently, artists with disabilities are busy painting and decorating various types of doors—from full-size entry doors, to cabinet doors, shutters, and even book covers.  On Thursday, June 13, artists of all skill levels are invited to create their own “door art” to contribute to the project.  From 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Sara and other members of the SMART team will be at the Cable Recreation Park to help community members paint doors.  Community members may bring their own doors and painting materials and create a piece of artwork.  Some materials will be available for community use as well.  Bring a lunch and join in the fun!

Join an experienced mountain biker from the Cable Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) and a Museum naturalist to explore the forest around scenic Wilson Lake. Beginner to advanced riders will appreciate the mix of rolling two-track and winding single track on this 6 mile trip. Meet at the Wilson Lake Trail Head east of Cable at 9:00 a.m., finish by noon. You must provide your own bike and transportation. Participants can receive a discount on rentals from New Moon in Hayward. Space is limited.

Learn the basics of good photography and close observation of nature by “framing” with local photographer, Dale Thomas, and Naturalist Emily Stone. Kids ages 8-12 can join us from 1:00-3:00 p.m. for outdoor photography and indoor photo critique. Simple digital cameras will be provided for the class. Hone your skills and then enter the Living Light photography contest! This program is free, but please register with the Museum by June 26.

Explore the wetlands and forests behind the Hayward Library with a Museum Naturalist. Get wet and muddy as you search for frogs, learn about wetlands, and have lots of fun! Learn the basics of paddling, enjoy the beautiful natural history of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, and learn to identify native and invasive species with Diane Daulton, Wisconsin DNR specialist. One of the most versatile groups around, Howard "Guitar" Luedtke & Blue Max is a Western Wisconsin rock blues band that performs all over the Midwest region. Many who have seen Howard and Blue Max have become fans of Howard’s talented slide guitar playing and the band’s rockin’ electric blues sound.

... Howard Luedtke has been playing guitar since the arrival of the Beatles in 1964. After playing with several rock, country and blues bands, Howard formed the Blue Max band in 1982. Joining Howard since 1987 is his wife, Deb Klossner originally from New Ulm, Minnesota on bass, and several talented drummers from all over the region.

Howard and Blue Max have opened up for or played with some of the best in the rock blues world, including: Long John Baldrey, Sugar Blue, Lonnie Brooks, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, Debbie Davies, Rick Derringer, Tinsley Ellis, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Johnson, Kenny Neal, A.C. Reed, Eddie Shaw and the Wolfgang, James Solberg, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Joe Louis Walker and Howard’s guitar idol, Johnny Winter.
